Step five - He did this because sin must be paid for, and we can't pay that debt on our own. "For the wages of sin is death;" Romans 6:23, but the Bible continues in this verse that "but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Step six - So what must we do?Romans 10:9-10 tells us "9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Step seven - Then you must trust Jesus to save you. "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13
Step one - Realize God loves you. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
Step two - Know that there is nothing good within yourself that can get you to heaven. "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:" Romans 3:10
Step three - Believe you are a sinner. The Bible says all men are sinners. "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
Step four: Realize that God loves us so much that Christ died for us while we were yet in our sins. "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
